Spare change old rock people?

I haven't been to CBGBs since, oh I don't know, maybe 1997, but the thought of it closing is horrifying to me and my childhood. It doesn't make sense that they can't raise $300,000. They're trying to launch a 30 day musical festival with The Beastie Boys and Green Day and David Byrne and whoever. The thing I'm surprised about is that a couple of rich people won't just give them the money, these musicians can afford a couple of Gs to the venue that launched their careers. Also, I realized a little awhile ago that The Golden Girls outlived The Ramones.
