What’s the Deal With the Icies Cupcake Wrappers?

by IsaChandra

That was my Seinfeld impression (what’s the deal with…), thank you very much.

I’m saying though – they look so pretty and modern but I would think that it would be a pain to eat a cupcake out of one. From my many years of field research in icies eating, it seems that you need to rip the rim apart to get to the cupcake. Don’t you lose a little bit of the grace that standard cupcake liners afford? I thought that peeling back the wrapper is part of the cupcake ritual that we hold dear. Am I just a luddite? Enlighten me.

yes, you lose a bit og the grace afforded by customary cupcake liners b/c you’d have to rip this icie improv….however….your display looks pretty…i guess if you didn’t want to rip it, the other option would be to squeeze the cupcake out…that’s be interesting!

i agree, i like to peel off the cupcake liner all at once!

I’ve never seen these, but it looks like they’re pleated, so you can maybe loosen them a little? I still like cupcake liners, though.

Hey, guess what I saw on Wednesday? Magnolia is open again- booooo.

It’s form over function. Traditional wrapers provide both.

You get a teeny spoon and eat the cupcake with it, with one pinky in the air. Plus a tophat, monacle, and a little pip-pip-cherrio if you’re feeling saucy.

I like to use these cups because they’re the perfect size. A little smaller than half of a standard cupcake. Good eaters will eat several. Timid eaters don’t refuse a cupcake (as they may do with a standard sized one). They can’t refuse. It’s barely any commitment.

They’re very easy to eat. Just pull the pleats apart and remove the cake in tact.

My favorite will always be the foil wrappers…pretty and shiny.

I thought it was just me. I hate those wrappers, so hard to eat out of. My husband pops the whole cupcake in his mouth and then removes the wrapper with his teeth. Kind of horrifying. Plus, you lose half of the darn cake. Maybe I’m just a traditionalist. Heck, half the time I bake cupcakes without wrappers at all!

A tiny little spoon has my attention

I made these last weekend…but they didn’t look half as pretty. Maybe it’s b/c I ate half the tasty icing first, and barely had enough left to clothe the cup cakes.

I use these wrapper and think they’re kickin because no mess is made. It’s something that makes me rage when I use the cute little papers but still have to clean the muffin pan, which I HATE, it’s such a pain, every little muffin indent and the water splashes back and your shirt gets a wet and you have to change and…

anyway, simple thing: make a snip or two just on the thick rim of the cup and it provides an easy tearaway, like so:

the great advantage of this style of liner is that they stand on their own. you can bake a crapload of them all at once on a cookie sheet. they are a little tougher to peel but i just tear at the rim andd they peel off just fine. the slightly smaller than an average cupcake size is also pretty appealing. but in the summer time, getting all the cupcakes done in one batch helps keep the kitchen a lot cooler!

Yeah. you are not alone in your thinking. They look real nice but I would need to break apart the cupcake to get to it either with a spork or by just ripping the paper in half.

Thanks for the info. This is something we are interested in. The bad thing is this site doesn’t load fast on my laptop. I will see what we can do when I get to work and will be back for more info.
