Baby Lamb City
by IsaChandra

I mean, seriously. Can you even?
I’m still recovering from the weekend. I’ll give a full report tomorrow, but I just wanted to get a quick baby lamb in. Would you have been able to cook with all this cuteness in plain sight? The lambs were being temporarily housed in the kitchen entranceway. Just…I can’t. Aren’t they so…..? Argh!
Oh, in case you have no idea what I’m talking about (and you don’t), the cooking was for the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary Thanksliving.

Dying of adorableness (is that a word?!?) I couldn’t cook with those lovely faces looking at me either. I’d have to go and give cuddles, couldn’t help myself.

So cute!
So here’s my question (totally not baby lamb-related): I, like everyone else on the planet, loved the chickpea cutlet recipe. Unlike everyone else on the planet, this was my first time using wheat gluten (gasp! I’ve never made seitan!). And, quite frankly, my cutlets were ugly. So I’m wondering (‘cuz I know not one single thing about how wheat gluten works), do you think I could take all the stuff and mash it into a mini loaf pan and made a mini chickpea loaf, instead of cutlets? Would it cook that way? Sorry for my totally ignorant question, but I am, well, totally ignorant on this subject.
Thanks, and HAPPY Thanksgiving!

Let’s start a poll. Which one’s cuter?? I say, it’s the foreground lamb. Hands down!

This is a perfect example of what we at the sanctuary call an illegal level of cuteness, statutorily defined as cuteness so intense as to prevent others from going about the business of their lives. Right now, I am dealing with two unrepentant lawbreakers, a calico kitten with mismatched eyes whose cuteness is capable of awakening others from deep slumber and a young broiler chicken who sings like a songbird, thereby compelling people to stop their chores in order to listen. You are to be commended, Isa, for your ability to persevere in the furry face of a double assault of cuteness by lambs who clearly have no respect whatsoever for the law.

Yay Woodstock Sanctuary I wear one of their t-shirts to the gym–very hip.
I love the lambs’ wry smiles. They know soemthing that we don’t.

Yeah, the lamb in the foreground is cuter. And clearly the leader.

Awww! I just squeed so loudly I woke up my kitty. But I couldn’t help it, I am just crazy for farm animals. They are so… weird. And… cute. And… tasty. (Yes, I’ve licked a farm animal, sue me.) How did these babies end up at Farm Sanctuary?

Bazu, the story of how they ended up there is really sad. I prefer this story – there were too many lambs in the forest of magical magic and they had to make room for the unicorns. So the lambs formed a cloud and then dropped out of the sky in heart shaped parachutes and landed in various sanctuaries.

re loaffins: I totally lost the recipe, I’m not holding out on everyone! I’m going to try to recreate it.

hey isa: do you have an angel food cake recipe you could link or share. Oh, and so I’m not totally un-lamb related… the one in the foreground with the wide set eyes captivated my daughter. I think we might have to take a trip…!

re Angel Food cake:
Any recipe that relies on eggwhites is impossible to veganize. If anyone tells you otherwise they are liars. That said, I’ve made a decent angel food cake-like thing using agar, but the results were to erratic to publish with confidence. -
