Life Without The PPK

by IsaChandra

The PPK forums that is. Tech support say it will be 24 to 48 hours until the boards are back up. I’m going to look at it like a vacation, and when they come back I’ll be all fresh and ready to ban everyone.

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:45 am: kittee

i’m worried about all the lost ppk’rs out there. i think some may not be able to cope. we need a backup plan.

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:51 am: IsaChandra

I know! I am especially worried about the fate of VegMoFo. I am also desperate for food porn.

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:53 am: FootFace

    I… I just, um…

I don’t know what to do. Or where to go.

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:01 am: kittee

i like co0oping isa’s blog. this is working well for me so far.

    you?

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:03 am: IsaChandra

    Safe space for ppk refugees.

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:07 am: kittee

according to NPR, we’re not refugees, we’re displaced people.

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:07 am: kittee

i also can’t believe no one else has figured out where we’re hiding. i already checked the herbivore forums, and it’s not happening.

    *sigh*
night tea without ppk? – i felt lost. funny how fast habits form.

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:35 am: innochka

Want to see my balls? (Veganomicon’s ‘spaghetti and bean balls that is)

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:36 am: Pamela

breaking my heart. seriously. I need to check my PM! uggggg. is it going to be shiny and sparkling clean when it comes back? What the holy hell am I going to DO all day tomorrow at work?

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:40 am: steph

that really sucks. it had been acting weird for a little while though.

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:06 am: Lauren (SodaShop)

So I get back from the Circa Survive show, and the boards aren’t working?!

WAY TO CELEBRATE WORLD VEGAN DAY, ISA.

It was planned, I just know it.

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:26 am: jess

does this mean I have to watch more TV? fork yous!

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:36 am: xiola

    found you!

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:54 am: VeganAmy

Yay. I thought somehow I got banned from the PPK or something….
    Phew.
What am I meant to do with the last three days of my holiday now?

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:58 am: raddish

    Nooooooooo!

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:00 am: Emmie

Noooo, this just isn’t right. I so desperately needed someone to come up with a vegan honey mustard dressing recipe for me, and now the forums are down? *sobs*

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:42 am: Celine

I am drowning my sorrow in the big bottle of vodka I bought for the Penne Vodka recipe. I blame you, Isa.

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:14 am: cthutu

now we can all become pen pals and forget about our internet lives. anybody down?

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:19 am: BlindTurtle

    I blame Josh.

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:23 am: StrawberryRock

But I am having a really day and need to talk about it and I don’t have any real friends!!

And Emmie, I would take any old honey mustard dressing recipe on the internet and sub the honey with agave. Here’s one that I found randomly that got a good review: http://mixes.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/10/Honey_Mustard_Dressing8656.shtml

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:28 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

Okay, all you PPK nuts, what was the IRC info that was supposed to save us all in a terrible tragedy like this?

I already cried to Princess LaLaLemon that I figured that I’d been extra-banned for saying something questionable about tarragon. I need my PPK fix! And I need to R.S.V.P. for thanksgiving. Bah, humbug.

Bejeebus, Josh, can’t you stop DOS-ing the PPK server for just a minute?

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:31 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

Stawberryrock, how many days before you are outta there?

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:31 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

Oh, not being able to edit my late-night spelling is the worst part of this, easily.

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:31 am: Jerusha

erm… what?? do you mean, I actually have to work today instead of PPKing??

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:35 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

Well, we still have the trivia thingy: http://my.funtrivia.com/private/main.cfm?tid=44946

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:41 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

I’ll be putting something PPK-forum-ish on the altar at the day of the dead fest tonight. Anyone else gonna show up in Garfield Park in SF? We can celebrate the memory of the good old days when the PPK was alive and well. Melisser? Bastah? Mel C?

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:47 am: StrawberryRock

Sugarbeettree, I am leaving a week from today! So excited. But today the dad is coming home, for the whole weekend, maybe more, and I cannot cope because I hate him.

  • November 2, 2007 at 5:03 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

Do you have your airport transit all worked out? Have you planned your travel clothes & snacks? Did you start packing and buying stuff you want to take home? Get yourself busy and get away from him! The kid can go to the stores with you, if it isn’t being a bigger pain than dad.

  • November 2, 2007 at 5:14 am: H-Dog

I wonder how many PPKers are doing extra drinking tonight to cope. I for one am pretty damn sauced.

  • November 2, 2007 at 5:31 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

I don’t drink, but I did consider it. The lack of ppk has driven me to think of blog names so that I can play at Veg(an)MoFo, though.

  • November 2, 2007 at 6:21 am: kennyboy

    CATFLAP!

    This sucks.

  • November 2, 2007 at 6:22 am: kennyboy

I can’t get the Cinderella song “Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘Til It’s Gone” out of my head.

  • November 2, 2007 at 7:30 am: Bfunk

Anyone have any idea of if it’s possible to make tamales without corn husks? I don’t have any, I’m not planning on leaving the house, but I do want to make tamales. Any advice or should I nix it?

  • November 2, 2007 at 7:58 am: Dawn

I think by definition tamales would be in corn husks (or plaintain leaves…got any of those lying around?). Since they have to be steamed a tortilla probably wouldn’t work. What about rice paper wrappers? I haven’t cooked with those yet, but they do have a drier texture to start with…don’t know if it would get gooey steamed though. The tamales sound like lots of work to have not come together properly…I’d probably wait.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:00 am: StrawberryRock

I’ve heard of people making tamales just in foil. Not terribly authentic but probably still delish.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:04 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

You could try parchment, but husks would be better by far.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:05 am: pandacookie

The eyes are the groin of the face.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:06 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

Golly. Pandacookie’s been drinking with H-dog, I think.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:07 am: pandacookie

That should have been in the The Office thread.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:07 am: Bfunk

Thanks. I think it’s time for another Vaginamicon giveaway. Or whatever the book is called.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:11 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

    That’s VaJayJaynomicon.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:28 am: StrawberryRock

    I am sooo booooored.

    Play scrabble with me.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:41 am: Katie

This is hy e have livejournal as a back up, guys.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:42 am: Katie

Apparently my ‘w’ key went on vacation for that comment.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:46 am: Bfunk

Yeah, this kind of blows. What is the point of being JOBLESS if you can’t kill threads on the PPK every day? Dayum.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:56 am: Mary

Damn! I’m laying in bed, procrastinating on going to work this morning, and all I wanted was to get lost in the PPK.

Katie, I made your tempeh wingz last night and blogged about ‘em for VeganMoFo…they were so good.

  • November 2, 2007 at 9:20 am: bazu

you guys are all still coming to dinner at Caravan of Dreams tonight, right? RIGHT? Please don’t leave me there with a glaring manager and a an empty reserved table for 26! Yeep. Withdrawal pains. Where’s. My. Methadone.

  • November 2, 2007 at 9:26 am: Frecklefoot

I am so sad. I am in severe pain. I fell this morning at work, and I can’t even bitch about it to the PPK. I feel like I got hit by a truck!

I am definitely still coming to COD tonight, along with my husband, brother, and Bottleandball!

Please, PPK, come back soon. I hurt physically and mentally.

  • November 2, 2007 at 9:34 am: Catalina

And here I was getting all frustrated with my computer for not opening.

  • November 2, 2007 at 9:42 am: kafkaesque

I guess I will be pretty productive at work this morning.

  • November 2, 2007 at 9:48 am: corrie

VeganMoFo lives! I noticed a couple blogs I read doing VeganMoFo, so I made a VeganMoFo exclusive RSS feed… http://www.google.com/reader/shared/user/10401450510537964801/label/VeganMoFo

  • November 2, 2007 at 9:55 am: redheadtheresa

You couldn’t have done this when I was on vacation?

And yes, I drank in sorrow last night too.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:03 am: Coppe

Corrie, that’s a great idea (is doing VeganMoFo too).

I was thinking setting up a blog for it might be a good idea (with a list of every blog participating and a post with links to every VeganMoFo article posted that day). You could also use it to announce that week’s recipe or question.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:04 am: Lunanimus

I was extremely depressed last night when I couldn’t get on the forum….but I did get some homework done…..God shut the ppk down for a day so I could write my paper….sorry

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:12 am: vwam

    Isa broke the internets!

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:21 am: Tzippy

Now that I’m actually watching the last hour of the Today show instead of just having it on while I check the PPK, I realize how much it sucks.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:24 am: Jaymoh

    For the office thread:

Aside from having sex with men, the Finer Things club is the gayest thing about me.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:27 am: Frecklefoot

I can’t believe that this means I have to actually work. I really do want to sit here and complain about how much pain I’m in! I hope all of you NY’ers are still coming to Caravan of Dreams tonight!

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:28 am: Tzippy

Someone should talk to me online. I need constant entertainment.
I’m BlwnNThWnd on both AIM and Yahoo.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:30 am: torque

thanks for the trivia link. at least i have a sliver of hope.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:32 am: StrawberryRock

I am afraid of initiating AIM conversations, but I’m mabeval! People should talk to me!

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:33 am: Tzippy

I am normally afraid of initiating them as well, but for the sake of our sanity, I will (after I do the update it just asked me to do).

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:34 am: Tzippy

Dear AIM, I don’t want Plaxo and Viewpoint on my computer. You suck.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:36 am: JENNA

I guess today’s a good day to clean my kitchen. Also my daughter is farting up a storm..that’s should amuse me for abit.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:37 am: jd

    yawn.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:39 am: connie aka glittergirl

Is this the end of veganism as we know it? And how long till we break the blog??

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:50 am: Tzippy

Wouldn’t it have been funny if your comment broke the blog, glittergirl?

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:52 am: Katie

On the upside, since there’s no PPK to waste time on I was able to get the page for issue #2 up and running. Go buy it!

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:53 am: Tzippy

    Ooh, you finished it, Katie?

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:57 am: Katie

Yes! You should see the Kinkos box, I had trouble carrying it out to the car.

  • November 2, 2007 at 10:58 am: Tzippy

Ha! I just happen to have some singles and a stamp, so I will snail mail you.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:04 am: IsaChandra

I have 2 actual important things:
How many people are meeting at Caravan tonight? And it was 7 oclock, right?
And B) Did anyone write up a thing about VeganMoFo?

Oh, I just read that DEOTS #2 was done!

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:10 am: Katie

Isa, I made an entry about VeganMoFo with the list of ideas we all came up with, it’s on my site a few entires down.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:11 am: Frecklefoot

Last I checked, there were at least 15 confirmed people for COD, although I suspect there will be more. I also suspect there will be less than 26, but we can hope! It is at 7:00, and then some of us who are in need of soft serve will be trekking to Atlas afterward

I have no idea what VeganMoFo is, but it sounds fun.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:17 am: sugarbeetthree, fork yeah!

I did a VegMoFo/VeganMoFo post, too. It will happen!

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:18 am: Amy

WHEW. I thought my life was over.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:27 am: jaymoh

OOh! I love Caravan of Dreams!

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:29 am: Kelly

this is really, really sad. i’ve actually been cleaning my house! thanks alot ppk!

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:34 am: Pamela

i posted some tempeh and roasted potatoes on my blog if you guys wwant to see foodpronz

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:44 am: hasnotattoos

I honestly thought I couldn’t get in because I was banned. I figured it was because of my general cantankerous nature and my last post in the thought police thread…. thought police came and locked me out of ppk.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:47 am: jaymoh

I thought I was banned because I hate journey.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:48 am: Katie

You were banned because you hate Journey. You just don’t know it yet because the board went boom.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:49 am: jaymoh

    I knew it!

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:50 am: bryophyte

Well, if you look, the user name “imoskowi@lhbb02.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net” its obviously Isa. I was wondering what Isa could have done to get us ALL banned, not just herself. Quite severe actions, I’m sure.

Also, is that REALLY her password? Well, was it anyway? I’m sure now that its all broadcast it will be changed. But that could be the site’s password for the webdesign techie people.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:50 am: Frecklefoot

Katie, exactly where do I order DEOTS #2 from? I can’t find the order page!

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:52 am: Frecklefoot

Nevermind. I found it. I’m an idiot.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:52 am: bottleandball

Because I do everything backwards I did a VeganMoFo post yesterday and today I will explain what VeganMoFo is. I don’t think anyone outside of the PPK community reads my blog anyway.

At what point should someone call to alert Caravan that there might be a change in numbers? And, does Melisser have any local contact numbers? She’s here from out of town, right? What’s her internet situation?

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:03 pm: MadHoney

This sucks. How exactly am I going to kill 6+ hours today while I wait for work to show up?

I was even all ready with a happy post about how I’ve found a very vegan-friendly pediatrician for my baby!

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:14 pm: bazu

Are we sure that the CoD reservation needs to be changed? I’m still pretty optimistic that everyone who said they’d come will come.

I’ll be off-line for the next few hours. See you guys tonight. The reservation is under “Bazu”

    xo

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:14 pm: JENNA

Then I would have posted how jealous i was that you found a very vegan-friendly pediatrician.

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:18 pm: violet

oh jeez. and i wanted some quick opinions about a gift for my best friend’s birthday. guess i’ll have to make the decision myself. and by ‘make a decsion’ i mean just buy him both things i was considering.

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:27 pm: Gwenlet

I do believe I’m still comiing to COD. I have some errands to run, though, so there’s some small chance I may be late. I also have a terrible sense of direction and have never been to COD, so maybe there’s a significant chance I’ll be late.

As long as I too am spamming Isa’s blog, does anyone know where in Manhattan I can find Vitasoy Holly Nog and Chocolate peppermint?

  • November 2, 2007 at 12:46 pm: Joan

I am definitely coming to COD with my husband. Not sure if that post was seen before the disaster that took out the board. I am Veg(an)MoFo-ing too. Hopefully we can carry on without the forums for now
    gwgredux

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:01 pm: IsaChandra

Gwenlet – I haven’t been able to find it! I would call Lifethyme and see if they have it. And then call me and tell me.

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:12 pm: nikitee

Justincase the board isn’t up soon:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOAN (GWGREDUX)!

  • November 2, 2007 at 1:39 pm: Pranjal

Ha! I knew I’d find some of you people here. On a positive note the PPK break has forced me to write 1000 words of an article that’s due after the weekend. Awesome.

    p.s. happy birthday gwgredux!

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:17 pm: Joan(gwgredux)

Aw shucks guys thanks. It better be up by my birthday on Tuesday or our heads will explode. Or I’ll finish NaNoWriMo early…..I wish

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:26 pm: rad.badger

    Before I forget:

I stained my enamel dutch oven with black beans! It’s all icky looking inside now. I mean, I know it’s clean and it probably won’t effect cooking at all, but it was so pretty before! Anyone know how to remove stains from enamel?

    and happy b-day gwgredux!

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:32 pm: Mary

I’m actually working at work! Mm…credit union financial data….much better than the ppk?

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:34 pm: catotem

“Also, is that REALLY her password? Well, was it anyway? I?m sure now that its all broadcast it will be changed. But that could be the site?s password for the webdesign techie people.”

The password’s not in the error message; it’s just saying that the login failed and that the login attempt used a password. Probably a good idea to change the username, though, as the trolls now have half the credentials needed.

I don’t know what happened, but judging from the error mesage and amount of downtime, it sounds like the database server had a drive failure, and the webhost is probably in the middle of a very long restore. Ouch. Hopefully they didn’t lose the deebee.

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:41 pm: StrawberryRock

I am so bored that I started a vegan blog. Come back ppk!

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:55 pm: smoothie

i’m dead inside. ps. strawbs you CANNOT start a blog without leaving a link!

  • November 2, 2007 at 2:59 pm: smoothie

noooo! i just realised that i can’t tell you guys about my cool, new job! i have to wait till the forums are up and running., dang.

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:02 pm: StrawberryRock

    Tell us here, Smoothie!

And the blog is just strawberryrock.wordpress.com. It is silly.

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:12 pm: smoothie

i got a job as a phone salesperson for a big newspaper, and i get paid for what i sell. and it pays GOOD. like, really really good. and i only have to work 27 hours a month, but can choose to work more if i like.
and i know three people who work there, that are really nice, so i’ll have someone to eat with and hang out with. it is awesome, and i only have to work from 5pm to 8pm per time i’m there. it is so so so cool. i think i am gonna be really good at it aswell.

oh yeah, and my mom just called to tell me that she’s thinking of volunteering with me, making vegan christmas food for homeless people. so freaking rad.
it’s been a great day, can you tell? how are you doing in germany? are they still as stupid as ever?

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:12 pm: BlindTurtle

I don’t cook/bake enough for a VeganMoFo. Mmm. Canned veggie dog with mustard and onions for breakfast.

Katie, as soon as I find three bucks, I’m gonna order issue #2. I’ve gone one dollar so far. I’ll check the other couch cushions later.

You know what this feels like? A fire escape plan. Okay, kids, if the PPK goes teets up, I want you to lower the rope ladder out the window, climb down in a slow, orderly fashion and if we get separated, we will all meet at the PPK blog.

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:13 pm: BlindTurtle

    GOT one dollar, not gone.

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:14 pm: Tzippy

I got bored and am making whole wheat bread. A lot of it. It used almost 5 lbs. of flour, so this better turn out well!

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:16 pm: BlindTurtle

I just changed the band aid on my stab wound. It shouldn’t still be bleeding, should it?

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:16 pm: Tzippy

Your new blog is cute, strawberryrock! WordPress’s layouts are so much more awesome than blogger’s, but I’m too lazy to change my blog.

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:27 pm: StrawberryRock

I actually really wanted a pink layout but the only pink one kind of sucked. Thanks, though! And Smoothie, the job sounds awesome! I am just really hoping I get the job with Planned Parenthood that I applied for. The dad is home this weekend so I am not leaving my room even though I have barely eaten today and I am starving. I think tomorrow they’re seeing a football game in Munich so I’ll have the house to myself a bit. I leave in a week! Woo!

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:29 pm: Tzippy

I was wondering…how are you applying for jobs if you’re in Germany and the jobs are in the U.S.? Email?

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:31 pm: StrawberryRock

Yup, email and Craig’s List. Some require me to come in person so obviously they have to wait.

  • November 2, 2007 at 3:34 pm: Linanil

    Strawberry,
I like your blog post… If loving peanut butter is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:09 pm: pandacookie

I may not show tonight for Caravan of Dreams.
I have some shoulder and back and foot pain from moving yesterday and today and some sheetrock fell on my toe and I may fall asleep soon. We shall see.

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:35 pm: Anonymous

this suuuuuuucks. i have nothing to do at work without the ppk!

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:39 pm: willwolf

Ok, whew, I’m at least glad it wasn’t just me. I was getting worried. Thanks for posting on this. Hopefully, the wait won’t be too long.

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:45 pm: IsaChandra

Well, it’s probably going to be two more days. I had to get a dedicated server which was freaking expensive. Stop clicking the boob thread every 2 seconds, you perverts. I know, the boob thread is gone. But still.

So yeah, by Monday it should be back up and fast.

  • November 2, 2007 at 4:52 pm: Tzippy

The perils of being popular, huh Isa?

  • November 2, 2007 at 5:14 pm: miharu

What the hell am I supposed to do at work now?

Also, the boards being down drove H-Dog not only to drink, but to attempt actual social interaction with the illustrious me. You’re all totally jealous.

  • November 2, 2007 at 5:15 pm: raspberrycomplaint

I have no idea what to do all weekend now. Who am I going to talk about all the boring details of my life with???

  • November 2, 2007 at 5:17 pm: xiola

We got veganomicon and a new breastpump !

  • November 2, 2007 at 5:18 pm: miharu

Also, if anyone wants a free WordPress food blog set up on the veganpr0n server, give me a holla.

  • November 2, 2007 at 5:52 pm: Carol

    WOW! Til Monday?

I may actually get some work done. WEIRD! But, the boards were having issues before the server smash anyway. Do we need to send $ for funeral services for the previous bit of server we were using?

  • November 2, 2007 at 6:09 pm: anencephalic

I had to sell my house to pay for the drug habit I picked up in order to deal with a life without the PPK.

  • November 2, 2007 at 6:35 pm: Pamela

So how does this work? Too many people get on and it gets all crazy? I know nothing about the actual functions of boards. i just go and talk to people and not worry of it. Mimosas tonight. Later.

  • November 2, 2007 at 6:37 pm: B.A.D.

Is this where we regroup and take refuge from the stupidity rampant on the rest of the internet?

  • November 2, 2007 at 7:09 pm: uits

For the record, I’m whining. How it can take daaaaays to restore a database machine is beyond me.

  • November 2, 2007 at 7:37 pm: Pranjal

Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos

  • November 2, 2007 at 7:43 pm: Padraigin

    [Big Sigh...]

Now I know I definitely have a vegan food porn addiction. Will try some Mimosas and VCTOTW baking to combat the agony of withdrawl !

  • November 2, 2007 at 7:50 pm: Carol/bryophyte

Probably because its the weekend. They aren’t actually fixing the problem, the techies are watching ST:TNG and posting to their own forums that WORK right now.

    I bet so!

GRRR. But TNG sounds good. But I think I’m just gonna go see Harry Potter at the $2 campus theater with free popcorn and a pop!

WOOT! And I think I’m gonna sneak some homeade popcorn in as well, because I really wanna make the stuff I mentioned in my blog.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:03 pm: rad.badger

I need bread crumbs!!! I don’t have a food processor and all the bread crumbs I ever find have whey in it! Someone! Solve my problems! I need the ppk to tell me what to doooo!

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:04 pm: fld_again

here are the peoples. this is sort of like the ppk. well, not even a little bit. i don’t know if i can wait until monday!

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:09 pm: fld_again

forgot- i’m making chile cornmeal encrusted tofu, southwest corn pudding, and green pumpkin seed mole tonight! exciting. and it may even be done in a “normal” amount of time with no ppk to check on every 5 minutes. so this is how the others live.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:15 pm: fld_again

it IS just like the boards, i’m replying to myself.

    ok, i’m outta here.

  • November 2, 2007 at 8:27 pm: Mary (pickled treats)

Dammit…I’m watching Sahara on TNT right now…has anyone ever seen this movie?

Also eating a pot of quinoa and broccoli – right from the pot – and wearing sweat pants. I love Friday nights.

  • November 2, 2007 at 9:07 pm: rad.badger

I’ve seen Sahara. In theatres. It was pretty meh. Nothing special at all about it.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:15 pm: Lauren (SodaShop)

My life is so pointless without the PPK I’ve signed up on 3 new boards in the past day to fill the void. But they just don’t compare. I really didn’t think I was so attached to the ‘Kult, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I even spent an hour DAYDREAMING today.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:39 pm: IsaChandra

You know, I have no idea why it takes so long. It’s annoying. They need to set up a new server, but so what? Jerks. But I am too annoyed to just switch hosts because at least I am familiar with these particular jerks already.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:40 pm: IsaChandra

Hey, we should all sign up on a new board for the weekend! Let’s pick one. There used to be Bea Arthur boards.

  • November 2, 2007 at 11:45 pm: IsaChandra

Ok, let’s join JZN’s message boards for the weekend. Even though he hates vegans!
    http://www.worldofjasoncraft.com/forum/
He has lots of stupid avatars we can use!

  • November 3, 2007 at 12:12 am: bunniee

what did I do on the internets before the PPK? I visit other boards but they just aren’t the same.

I am full of chickpea cutlets and mac daddy casserole.

  • November 3, 2007 at 12:59 am: Lauren (SodaShop)

Wait, so, what is that forum all about? I don’t get it, but I’m looking to be enlightened.

  • November 3, 2007 at 1:10 am: Susie Tofu Monster

    OOOOOHHHH HERE is the PPK!
    It was hiding!

You guyses! I want to be a vegan mofo! I Don’t have a blog though. I was all set to start one about a month ago, but then realised that “The Vegan Alchemist” looks kind of bad when the spaces and capital letters are taken out…. and I couldn’t think of anything else….. so I never started one after all.

  • November 3, 2007 at 2:39 am: M.W.O.A.I.

GAH!!! No ppk and my wife just reminded me that Thanksgiving is fast approaching and I have NOTHING planned. Add to that the fact that I’m the only veg in the home. eep!

  • November 3, 2007 at 3:27 am: CommunistDaughter

OK, this isn’t funny anymore. Come back PPK forum! I am nothing without you! Isa, if the board isn’t up by monday, i’m staging a mutinous vegan revolution-a mutiny! ‘you hear me?! [who's with me?]

  • November 3, 2007 at 3:34 am: Katie

Oh man, this sucks. Monday? What the hell am I supposed to do all weekend, fold and staple zines to ensure that people get them in a timely fashion? Fuck that noise.

  • November 3, 2007 at 4:25 am: BlindTurtle

Once the boards are back up, let’s not all log on at once. We don’t want to frighten it away again.

i have seen waaaay too much tv already. just finished the 3th season of alias, so now i have no more episodes. and right now i’m watching a tv show about two women opening a spa. so wrong!

  • November 3, 2007 at 11:33 am: AutumnVegan

I’ve been sitting around on the computer thinking of what to do on the internet after I’ve already done everything else I need to do.
    Ahh!
    So much backlogged food porn.

One plus: I blogged like crazy and feel a little accomplished.

pandacookie, I can’t wait to see your studio!!

I have to take my mom’s quinea pig to the vet in a couple of hours. Hopefully I’ll wrap that up in time to head out to the vegan holiday festival in Portland.

    RedBadger-

I would just toast leftover bread, put it in a ziploc and hit it with something heavy, like a rolling pin or the handle of a chef knife. I never buy bread crumbs, they are way too expensive!
If you want seasoned bread crumbs, just throw a little all purpose, garlic, onion, and/or Italian seasoning.

  • November 3, 2007 at 2:41 pm: Linanil

    Hello all,

I went out to eat at a veggie chinese place. If you guys are in maryland, you gotta try it. They have all sorts of fake meat and wonderful veggie dishes. It was sooo good.

Ok that is all I have.

Miharu if you are serious about the blog thingy. I will take you up on the offer. How do I contact you on your blog? Just write a comment? I can give you contact info for me or whatever.

    Damn I must be bored.

Caravan of Dreams was much fun 22 (I think) PPK’ers. More when the forums are up don’t want to upset those outside the NYC area who had no access.

So, the bread crumbs in Chickpea Cutlets. Its pretty integral I find. Too bad you can’t add them after the cutlets have been in the oven for 15 minutes already huh?

note to self, pay a tad bit more attention to the recipe!

  • November 3, 2007 at 5:22 pm: Linanil

For the chicken cutlets, I’m wondering if there is a substitute for bread crumbs? Like corn meal?

    RE: Honey Article

no I haven’t read it! My sub ran out and I paid for another one but they didn’t catch me up yet. Someone link it or tell me the main gist?

  • November 3, 2007 at 8:37 pm: Pamela

PS – Clorox bought out Burt’s Bees.

I can’t wait until Proctor and Gamble buy out Isa Moskowitz.

  • November 3, 2007 at 8:37 pm: vantine

my mom keeps renwewing my sub – she’s done this for about 15 years. It’s in a column called “One food – 5 ways.” They pick honey – not a subject that I find that interesting – I’m a bad vegan. What they did was interview the editor of “bee culture” magazine who procliams that bees are not exploited – they provide “safe, adequate housing” for the bees.

Regardless of how one feels about honey – I thought it was interesting that under the heading “Ethical Extraction” VT would just speak to a beekeeper. They are increasing their focus on vegan meals, which is nice, but they are also catering to their audience of “semi-vegetarians”, aka people who like to eat veggie one or two times a week.

  • November 3, 2007 at 8:38 pm: vantine

P&G?? They eat your soul – I have a number of friends who work there in Cincy.

  • November 4, 2007 at 2:04 am: (farmtobelly)

Pamela- clorox…seriously?! Those jerks. J&J takes my toms of maine and now clorox takes my face wash from me. This news is almost as bad as the forum being down.

  • November 4, 2007 at 2:32 am: bunniee

  • November 4, 2007 at 10:44 am: rad.badger

Hey Pamela. I want to knit/crochet sooo bad, but whenever the yarn stores have classes I can never go! Do you think learning to knit through books/ online videos, etc is a doable option? Should I pay $25 for a one hour, one-on-one at the yarn store to get the begining’s before trying to work out my way through books and such? What do you think?

  • November 4, 2007 at 10:46 am: rad.badger

I wish I could edit: I also invite other knitters to help me with the decision, it’s just I know Pamela knits, and she even mentioned it in this ppk-less blog thread.

  • November 4, 2007 at 11:10 am: kennyboy

I think I’m going to go to Harrah’s and gamble.

Life without the PPK is costing me a fortune…

  • November 4, 2007 at 12:55 pm: StrawberryRock

rad.badger, do you know anyone who knits? Because it would probably take them 10 minutes to show you the basics. I think videos could also work, though. Maybe try that and if you’re confused take a class.

  • November 4, 2007 at 1:02 pm: Pamela

    Badger-

PM me when boards are back up.

  • November 4, 2007 at 2:12 pm: bryophyte

Kennyboy, you like to go to Harrah’s? I’ve never been there but seeing as I live in WNC, and you in TN, its probably the same Harrah’s…we should have a meetup! Harrah’s or otherwise anyway.

  • November 4, 2007 at 2:26 pm: Tzippy

rad.badger–I had a friend show me the basics of knitting, but now she’s moved away and I don’t know anyone else here who can answer my questions. I find Stitch ‘n Bitch to be very helpful, and when it doesn’t cover something or I need more details, I find a video online. Hasn’t failed me yet. I don’t know who all these people are who record themselves knitting, but G-d love ‘em.

Oh jeez. I looked in the mirror some time around lunch, and I looked crazy. I had like, 3 hours of sleep and my shoes were wigging out and gave me blisters. I totally met a kinda cute boy there too, and then THATS when I checked the mirror and saw how nuts I looked. I like to think I usually look somewhat more approachable, so don’t be completely frightened off!

Either way, it was fun to meet you! Hopefully we’ll have a Chicago meet-up eventually.

  • November 4, 2007 at 8:01 pm: vantine

    No Whey:
everyone wants to boards back. People have been slipping to various vices including drinking, gambling and baking. Rad.Badger wants to learn how to knit. Pamela and I had a brief conversation about unintentionally obscene buildings. Oh, Tom’s of Maine sold out.

    I think that’s it.

  • November 4, 2007 at 9:05 pm: cthutu

I didn’t realize how dependent I had become. Every time I have a question about something, I want to run to the boards because I know someone will have an answer, but now I am left without answers. Oh, life is devoid of meaning now, a bottomless pit of despair….

  • November 5, 2007 at 1:43 pm: kennyboy

    Hey bryophyte!

Yeah, I go over to Harrah’s Cherokee all the time. We could definitely meet up over there sometime. I usually end up going on Sunday because I like to make a day out of it.

I normally like to stop in Asheville and have brunch at The Laughing Seed and then head on over to Harrahs. Heck, we could just meet up at The Laughing Seed or Rosetta’s for that matter…

We’ll have to plot and plan something in The Square when the boards are back up!

  • November 5, 2007 at 1:47 pm: kennyboy

I cannot wait until the boards are back up so I can rant and rave about my most favorite recipe of all times which I have discovered in VCON.

I have been searching high and low for the past couple of years for the perfect vegan recipe for a certain thing and have been unable to find a decent one. All of the ones that are out there are either too dry or contain ingredients that I don’t have on hand all the time.

Leave it to Isa & Terry to publish a recipe that uses normal ingredients and makes the most delicious version of this I have EVER tasted, vegan or not.

You don’t even understand how big this is to me.

I’ll expound more on the wonderfullness of this specific recipe as soon as the boards are back up.

Now I’m going to eat some more of this item, my own personal “holy grail” of vegan food.

Anyway, this one recipe is worth buying the whole book to me.

You guys, I have been on the phone with the hosting place all freaking day. I am probably going to cancel this account completely and start with someone else so it might be a little longer but at least I won’t be dealing with these swindling jerk faces anymore.

  • November 5, 2007 at 3:34 pm: Ivlenya (aka Innochka)

    so desperate…
I drank up all my white cooking wine (and it was cheap and nasty and i never planned it for any thing more than cooking with)
Damn you – swindling jerk face server tech guys – daaaaaaaaamn you.

  • November 5, 2007 at 3:58 pm: anencephalic

I believe that it’s the great sphincter of hell…..but I’m sort of lost right now so I can’t say for sure!!

  • November 5, 2007 at 5:20 pm: cthutu

its going to be chaos once the boards are back up.

  • November 5, 2007 at 5:50 pm: Pamela

Fucking sucks. I can’t stop thinking about what just happened-

I just took my kitty in to get her shots and I am waiting to pay and there’s this woman with an old skinny yellow dog. His head is in her lap and she is sobbing.
Both she and the dog are suffering and there’s nothing I can do about it. He has cancer and he can’t walk.

She said he is her best friend.

I hugged the dog and talked to her and told her if he is suffering then she is doing the right thing by having him euthanized. He didn’t look up, he just had his head on her.

Stuff like this hits me really hard. I can empathize with her, and I can say all I want. But at the end of today her best friend is gone and she is hurting so bad already. Sometimes the world is just a sad place to be. I can’t stop crying over this!

  • November 5, 2007 at 6:37 pm: mel

I’m sorry, Pamela! I cry just seeing that kind of stuff on TV; I had to stop watching those animal programs.

I’m in desperate need of conversations regarding jackfruit and CSAs. Damn technology!

  • November 5, 2007 at 7:19 pm: Bfunk

Pamela, I’m glad you have such a huge heart. It’s so hard when people lose their perfect loved ones!

  • November 5, 2007 at 7:34 pm: Lauren (SodaShop)

Poor doggy… that brought a tear to my eye :(

I’m sick for the first time in over a year… coincidence? I think not.
I have a fever and everything hurts. I’m blaming it on the boards being down, because I really don’t interact with people enough irl to actually catch a cold.
The doings of the assface tech guys and host have poisoned my otherwise lovely vegan body.

  • November 5, 2007 at 8:50 pm: jacblades

    pamela-
i had a similar experience at the vet six months ago except it was a child whose dog died. i think the dog was hit by a car and it reminded me of one of my childhood cats that was hit by a car. i couldn’t stop crying in the waiting room.

  • November 5, 2007 at 9:14 pm: kennyboy

Ooh. Something’s going on with the forums. Maybe they’re about to come back up!?!

  • November 5, 2007 at 9:42 pm: golden delicious

Please let it be true! I get up in the morning and I get my coffee and get on the computer and then………and then what? I stare blankly at the screen, desperately trying to think of what the hell to do on the internet. I am utterly lost. Hurry up and come back, ppk, or I’m going to become a Youtube junkie whore!

  • November 5, 2007 at 9:46 pm: smoothie

soo.. first day at new job went well! i hate that the boards are down, otherwise i would spend all night in front of the computer, which i totally miss. well, at least i’m earning money. apparantly i’m pretty good at selling newspapers! haha. but this is so not a long-term job. it’s not my thing to call up people in the night, trying to sell them something.

also, i have a wierd obsession with the song “hey mickey”. just htought you guys should know.

and sodashop: hopw you get better soon!
pamela: i like your big, wet heart!

  • November 5, 2007 at 9:54 pm: golden delicious

Smoothie, every time I hear “Hey Mickey,” I automatically think of Wayne’s World. I LOVE that movie.

Glad the new job’s going well!

i know it’s got it’s problems, but i just don’t feel like joining another forum.

  • November 5, 2007 at 10:31 pm: Suzie (Frecklefoot)

Awww, Pamela. I am so sorry. I am PMS’ing wicked hard, because that just made me cry for 5 minutes.

The lack of boards is making me blog my ass off… I’ve cooked A LOT this week. Tonight I made a spicy peanut curry stew. It was good, but now it is making me want ice cream, of which I have none.

Go check it out while you’re still bored, people! This time change is making me ridiculously tired at night, so I am probably off to bed because I’ve got no reason to stay awake!

the yahoo group says the boards are back, but i can’t see em. Whazzup??

Also RadBadger, if you haven’t gotten your enamel pan clean yet, use baking soda.

  • November 6, 2007 at 3:26 pm: Frecklefoot

Gosh, I wish the boards were back up so we could all discuss this lovely snippet from the Internet…

    http://food.yahoo.com/blog/beautyeats/19858/red-meat-that-makes-you-skinny

Just in case you weren’t annoyed enough by your daily activities today!

  • November 6, 2007 at 3:40 pm: Frecklefoot

Actually… this is probably the stupidest defense of meat-eating that I’ve ever seen.

“80. Posted by downwithkittie on Tue, Nov 06, 2007, 11:17 am PST

plants are by definition ‘alive’ and therefore by a biological standpoint eating veggies is just as unethical as meat if not more seeing as by eating fruits you are preventing that specific plant from ever reproducing by natural means.”

Seriously, read the comments on the article Yahoo posted. It’s keeping me entertained all day.
