meetup.com vegan potlucks. i swear, it was the year of the potlucks.

I am new to Trader Joe's but I really like their almond milk... and their nut butters... and their chips... and their coconut oil... and their chocolate.. and their tea... and cheap beer.

Is it too late to add something! Last night I tried for the first time the Faux Gras from Regal Vegan. So good...smoky and it really reminded me of liver-y stuff which I used to love.

some last-minute (?) entries:

Butiki Teas - a vegan business that carries high-quality and unusual teas, including some far-out flavors like cantaloupe & cream and maple pecan pie. lots of other companies that do flavored teas use dairy-derived flavorings, so it's nice to know that even the Irish cream cheesecake is something i can enjoy too!

Feed Your Face - vegan caramels! i know, we've already had Obsessive Confection Disorder on a previous list, but these are really yummy too, particularly the limited-edition eggnog flavor.

Vantastic Foods white chocolate - by far the best vegan white chocolate i've ever had. generally i use white chocolate bars & chips almost exclusively for baking, but this stuff is so smooth and creamy and not-waxy that you can't not eat half the bar by itself in one sitting.

Crossroads in LA was quite possibly the best meal i'd had all year. the artichoke "oysters" were particularly memorable.

Alchemy Creamery deserves a shoutout for their luscious green tea & coconut ice cream (and chocolate chai, though i was only able to taste the last little scrapings of the tub).

i'm sure i'll come up with plenty more after the final list is posted.

Has anyone tried these? I'm trying to decide it it's worth paying for cold shipping AND making my own bagels since I can't really get them here.

I haven't, but if you do decide to get them, I'd love to hear how they are. I find the Sophie's Kitchen stuff a little bland, but I like the texture, and I've found them a good vehicle for cocktail sauce, which is really what I'm after anyway.

My partner has tried the vegan lox! He used to love real lox back in the day so we've been playing with some replacements. He said the smokey taste was close to the real thing but the texture was all off - way too spongy. It was edible with Tofutti cream cheese and bagels, but he wouldn't get it again. He'd rather use smokey marinated tomatoes instead (http://cookingwithlazers.wordpress.com/ ... nd-bagels/)

I just bought it, but it is staying in the package til birthday breakfast on Thursday. Do you think the texture would be better if i panfried them first?

Thanks for the review and recipe. I wonder what would happen if you sliced the tomatoes slightly thicker and dehydrated them a bit.

If anything, it's even easier than it looks in the video.

I found it locally and rather liked it. It needed added salt.
