65) Stovetop Smokers

There’s just something about smoke that makes vegans feel a little bit naughty. Some of our favorite simple smoky bites: tofu, shiitake mushrooms, tomatoes, seitan, and homemade sausages. Jess Sconed inspired me to get one and she hasn’t blogged as much about hers as I wish she had, but she did post a whole bunch of smoked food on the PPK forums last March, including a block of homemade smoked potato nut cheese.

“Because of peer pressure (well, more so just because of reading tofu666’s blog and my BFF Jess buying one) I purchased a smoker, even though my kitchen is the size of a closet. Marinated and smoked oyster mushrooms and tempeh changed my life.”  – Gabrielle Pope

If you’re not ready to take the plunge quite yet, dip your foot in the pool with smoked paprika or smoked salt.
