Miso Drrrrty Southern Fried Tofu
Submitted by Avery
prep time: About 15-20 minutes | cooking time: Less than 15 minutes | makes About 16 pieces of golden frie
Far East meets the Drrrty South!

I was trying to imitate my old recipe that I used to use to fry chicken. I was worried that the batter might not fluff up as well while it was being fried without an egg so I put on my thinking cap and looked around in my fridge. I saw my container of miso and a little lightbulb turned on over my head! You should have been there! It was really weird!
Equipment:
A few small bowls, a frying pan. Two turntables and a microphone.

The main thing you need to be prepared for is that it works best if the tofu is frozen for 48 hours before you fry it. Cut it into triangles and freeze for two days.

Ingredients
1 block of tofu defrosted and cut into triangles.
Organic White Flour
*Cayenne pepper
*Garlic powder
*Sea Salt
*Fresh ground pepper
A teaspoon of cornstarch
1/4 cup cold water
1 cup warm water
1 heaping tablespoon of miso
Canola oil for frying

*All of these are according to taste*

~For spicy tofu, melt two tablespoons of dairy free butter and mix with your favorite hot sauce in a bowl. Set aside.

Directions
Leave your tofu sitting in warm water

In a seperate bowl, mix the 1 cup of warm water with the miso until it dissolves. In a small cup, add the cold water and the corn starch and stir until dissolved. Mix in with the miso water.

In a seperate bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients together.

It turns out better if you 'double dip' the tofu. Take a triangle and dip it into the flour mixture first. After that, dip in the miso mixture and then back into the flour until evenly covered. Set the battered tofu on a plate and prepare the rest of the pieces the same way. Get your oil good and hot.

Fry your battered tofu and turn regularly until brown on all sides. It doesn't take that long. Do yourself a favor and use tongs!

If you want to, once the tofu is cooked, toss it into the hot sauce/butter mix. It is good plain too. For an added treat, use some Follow Your Heart Ranch for dipping. Or some ketchup!
