Pizza rolls are one of the few foods that work on a six-year-old and a forty-year-old without changing a thing about them. Crisp shell, molten middle, gone in two bites. These are homemade vegan pizza rolls, made with marinara, vegan sausage, and vegan feta, and they beat the Totino’s box on every count that matters: more flavor, more crunch, nothing you have to look up.
The big shortcut is wonton wrappers. No pizza dough, no rolling, no proofing, just a sealed little pillow with a snappy outside and a hot center, ready in about 15 minutes. The wonton pizza roll was all the rage in the early 2000s, and it’s time to bring it back.
How homemade these are depends on you. The marinara, the sausage, and the feta can come straight from a jar and a package, or you can make them from scratch, since the recipes are already on this site. Mom’s Homemade Marinara, Breakfast Sausage, and Almond Feta are all here if you’re in a longcut mood. Shortcuts, longcuts, or some of each, the wontons do not care which way you go.
They are at their best at a party. Make them for a kid’s birthday party, make them for your cocktail party, the guest list is the only thing that changes. Both rooms empty the tray at the same speed. If you’re craving a Totino’s pizza roll, this recipe is for you.
Why This Recipe Rocks
- Shatter-crisp wonton outside, molten pizza middle. The ratio is exactly right.
- Easy to make: they bake in about 15 minutes, the recipe makes 20, and they work as a party appetizer or an easy snack.
- Everything is store-bought friendly: wrappers, marinara, vegan sausage, vegan feta. No special trip.
- They freeze well, so you can stash a batch and bake them straight from frozen, like the originals.
- No deep frying. The oven (or air fryer) does the work.
What Goes In Pizza Roll Wontons
Wonton wrappers. Look in the refrigerated produce section near the tofu, not the freezer. Nasoya is reliably vegan and in most grocery stores. Check the label anyway, since some brands sneak in egg.
The pizza sauce. Marinara mixed with a little tomato paste. The paste thickens it so it stays inside the wonton instead of bleeding out and steaming the wrapper soft. Use a jarred marinara you actually like, or make your own.
The filling. The cheese here is vegan feta. Feta over mozzarella on purpose: it stays creamy without going to liquid. With it goes crumbled cooked vegan sausage, and from there it’s open to your favorite pizza toppings, a few sautéed mushrooms, some chopped vegan pepperoni, a little crushed pineapple if you lean Hawaiian. More on swaps below.
How to Fold Pizza Roll Wontons
Sauce, then cheese, then sausage, all in the center of the wrapper. Keep the pile small. Wet the edges, fold two opposite corners over the filling so they overlap like a hug, then fold the remaining two corners into the center to make a little rectangle. Press the seams with a wet fingertip so they stay shut in the oven.

Vegan Pizza Roll Wontons Tips
Oven, air fryer, or microwave. Oven is the default: 425°F for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown and bubbling. Air fryer: 375°F for 7 to 9 minutes in a single layer, working in batches so the basket isn’t crowded. The microwave is only for reheating leftovers in a hurry, and it trades the crunch for speed, so go in knowing the wrapper will be soft.
Make them ahead. Assemble the whole batch, freeze them in a single layer on a tray until solid, then bag them. Bake straight from frozen, adding a couple of minutes. This is the version of these you actually want in your freezer.
Filling variations. Hawaiian with a little vegan ham and crushed pineapple, all mushroom, vegan pepperoni, or plain sauce and cheese for the kids who veto everything. Keep the total filling small no matter what you put in.
Don’t overfill, and work in batches. Overstuffing is the one way to wreck these. Too much filling and they split and leak in the oven. About a teaspoon of sauce, a little less feta, a teaspoon of sausage. Keep the edges clean and dry where you seal so the seam holds. A light spray of cooking oil, or a brush of olive oil, is what gets them golden brown.
Vegan Pizza Roll Wontons FAQ
Can I freeze pizza roll wontons? Hells yeah. Assemble them, freeze in a single layer until solid, then bag them. Bake from frozen and add a couple of minutes. They keep about 3 months.
Can I make these in an air fryer? Yup yup yup. 375°F, single layer, 7 to 9 minutes, working in batches so they crisp instead of steam.
Is this a vegan Totino’s pizza rolls copycat recipe? That’s the idea, yeah. Totino’s classic was never vegan, so this is the homemade version with the same freezer-aisle nostalgia.
Where do I find vegan wonton wrappers? In the refrigerated produce section near the tofu, not the freezer aisle. Nasoya is the reliable one. Always check the label, since some wrappers contain egg.

Pizza Roll Wontons
Ingredients
- Cooking spray or olive oil for brushing
- ½ cup marinara sauce store-bought or homemade
- ¼ cup tomato paste
- 20 vegan wonton wrappers
- ½ cup crumbled cooked vegan sausage store-bought, or 4 vegan breakfast sausages
- ½ cup vegan feta store-bought or homemade
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment and spray it lightly with cooking oil.
- In a small bowl, stir together the marinara and tomato paste until smooth.
- Set a wonton wrapper on a clean, dry surface. Spoon about a teaspoon of the sauce into the center, top with a little crumbled feta, then about a teaspoon of sausage. Keep the pile small so it seals.
- Dab the edges of the wrapper with a wet finger. Fold two opposite corners over the filling so they overlap like a hug, then fold the remaining two corners into the center to make a rectangle. Press the seams with a wet fingertip to seal. Set on the baking sheet and repeat with the rest.
- Spray the tops lightly with cooking oil or brush with a little olive oil. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown and bubbling.
- Let them rest on a rack for about 3 minutes so the filling settles, then transfer to a tray with a spatula and serve warm.
To Air Fry
- Assemble the wontons through folding and sealing (steps 2 to 4 above). Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
- Spray or brush both sides of the wontons lightly with oil. Arrange in a single layer in the basket without crowding, working in batches as needed.
- Air fry for 7 to 9 minutes, until golden brown and crisp, shaking or flipping halfway. Let rest a couple of minutes, then serve warm.
